Legal Recognition to Homosexual Unions

Legal Recognition to Homosexual Unions

From a colleague:
"This document, authored by Ratzinger, is a clear instance of ideology (in Althusser's sense) at work. It reveals the contradictions within a religious institution that putatively stands for the redemptive message of love for all that simultaneously constitutes itself, and the instituion for which it speaks, through quite specific and hateful exclusions.

May I recommend that those of us who teach queer theory courses and other courses in gay and lesbian literature use this document to discuss the institutional uses of hateful speech and the abuse of reason? Ratzinger is now being called an intellectual by those who are trying to make his election acceptable to the world. Therefore, it is perhaps the responsibility of intellectuals to demonstrate that this description is intellectually dishonest because of the contradictions it conceals."

fatherhood

Fatherhood is wonderful. I run home daily so I can hold my child. I love this. We would not be able to do this without my mother-in-law. She's invaluable. I am glad she flew in.

My student browsed this website continuously while she was my TA a few years ago, and now I've found it again. Cool.

1 week

Tomorrow my daughter will be one week old! Wow. It's wild how fast they grow. We've been relatively holed up this week, and I hope to see some of our peeps this weekend.

Here comes the baby!

We visited the doctor today. Turns out the wife is dilated already, so I suppose the baby will be coming sooner than later. Good deal for us. Go team!

Nesting instincts

When we made our nursery we took all spare room things and put them in the office. Then closed the door. Well, tonight I opened it. I walked in and spent four hours cleaning it. I am not done, but I am can walk in it. Until I clean the office, I cannot clean the living room. I forgot to eat dinner. I finally did at 11pm. Forced it down so I had something in my stomach. Bedtime soon.

Dead Pope in a big hat

So the pope is dead. Catholics believe that Mary is divine and many others of us don't. Good thing I read Angels and Demons and watched Euro Trip. Now I know what happens next. Maybe they'll make me pope. That'd be kinda cool, but I don't know Italian. Goddamn it!
