Exercise - Sideways

So I started exercising this week. The other night the wife and I walked around a few blocks, but she got a cramp and went home. The dog and I kept going for another 10-15 minutes. The next night the dog and I did the same walk, but before hand I drove it and measured it. It was 1.5 miles, and last night I did it in 19.33 minutes! My shins were killing me, but I felt great. My friends R&L are dieting too, and I wonder how they're doing. I am lighter now than I've been in months.

We saw Sideways today. It wasn't very good. I thought it would be very good because it's been nominated as Best Picture, but it isn't. I saw Aviator yesterday, and that was better than this. Paul Giamatti did an ok job, but I was very annoyed with Thomas Haden Church by the end of the movie. I will say two things though: 1.) I enjoyed the very end. 2.)I want a glass of wine!

E was suppose to go with us, but she slept for like 17 hours straight. I was not going to worry about her not showing up. I am use to it now, and I wasn't suprised when she didn't show.

starbucks beverages

starbucks beverages

This is so yummy and so bad for me! They gave me a sample today, and it was like drinking liquid gold.

So I am off my caffeine high now. I walked a mile or two after the coffee episode. Had a wonderful salad (like my fifth this week) and then watched the O.C. Now Smallville from last night, then off to bed before 10pm.

Anyone want to do brunch this weekend? Email me dudettes!

Wear some clothes, girl!

So tell me, women. Why do you wear clothes that don't fit? If you know your gut's gonna hang out or your skirt's gonna ride up, why do you wear it? I saw a woman today who had on a tank top, and as she sat with her man, she continually pulled at her jacket to cover her bosom. I was at a restaurant Friday night and the waitress tugged at her shirt all night, pulling it down over her waist band. These girls wear short skirts and yank at them all day to make sure their hoohas aren't drooping out. Why why why? I need to have this discussion with my daughter. Oh boy. The whole belly thing went out when Britney got fat and Christina decided to show more than just that. Come on, people. Put on some clothes. Haven't you ever wondered what's under those layers that you cannot see? I am fugly naked, but I'd rather make you wonder than show you my jewels. (BTW: Why yes, I did have a venti caff just now...)

Yawn

Here I sit writing assessment plans when I could be doing ANYTHING ELSE! So I say to the lady, ummm, when's the plan due? She says, tomorrow. Damn! That was four days ago, but they like me. I know when I can give and when I can get. Some people even owe me favors, but I don't understand why some people don't realize that I am intrinsically rewarded for my good deeds to others. Of course, if I want paid I need to stop blogging and get back to it!

Crapper jacks

So damn tired. I think I want to buy our OBGYN a Steelers hat to wear in the delivery room. Haha! He always has these sports hats, and the wife told him she would kick him if he wore his badgers one in there. Today was another appointment. Whoohoo. They said we get to have one every two weeks now. Go us.

It's 949 pm, and I need some sleep. All is well in med land. Sideways is this weekend. Sorry Paul, you weren't nominated.

Salad

Salad is good food. So today I figured I needed to eat something so I had my famous spinach salad for dinner. Here's what's in it:

Spinach, almonds, croutons, shredded cheese, bacon, red cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, & Girard's Spinach Salad salad dressing!

Yum!

More laughter

"The fluids that have been protecting your precious babe can become a wonderful mosaic on your shirt if you’re not careful. So be warned, and wear a gown or something you don’t mind having stained during delivery. Here’s how one dad, John, relays his experience: “When the head popped out, what followed was a big spray of blood and amniotic fluid, and it coated the front of my new shirt. For the rest of the day I was on cloud nine and showing off my blood-spattered shirt to anyone I saw. This included the girl at the corner store, where I stopped on my way home. I thought it was like a new age christening ritual—splatter the dad.”

Don't ask me where these are from.. the wife found them online.

Haha

This is so funny!!

"Yes, you can have sex during pregnancy. No, you will not dent the baby’s head. "

And the nomiees are...

AAA Discounts

So tonight we discovered that AAA gives discounts to certain places we frequent.

Go to www.aaa.com/barnesandnoble to get 10% off all online purchases at Barnes & Noble.
You can also get 10% off by showing your AAA card at TGI Friday's, Macayo's, and Landry's!

We go to TGI Friday's all of the time! Hope this helps!!!!

Legwarmers

Legwarmers are making a comeback! These girls wear these short denim skirts and sandals, then leg warmers. It's weird. I worked at the mall tonight selling raffle tickets and reading Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. It's a cool book. The rhetorical devices are superbly used. The kiddies will like it.

So tomorrow the Oscar nominees are announced at 5:38AM PST. I am going to be working! Damn. I have it taping on two channels while I am gone. Once they are announced I am making a list of movies I need to see ASAP. Last year I missed several and still have never seen them. Like Mystic River. This will not happen this year. I am ready to go!

I iceskate with the devil

We lost. That's it. Nada.

Not good

This is not good. Half time and Ben's falling apart. 24 to 3. Ugh. I am not very happy right now. Damn it. If we lose this, then it's Dillon vs. Owen next week and I hope Dillon breaks his leg.

Here we go. Two more.

I sit here again another Sunday on my chair with Ben. Philly won the AFC championship, and now here we go. Heinz Field. 11 degrees. -1 wind chill. The winner of this team tonight right now will more than likely win the Superbowl. Go Steelers! More later...

Frozen Grapes

Did I ever tell you how much I love frozen grapes. Bare with me. They're healthy, fat free, and scrumptious. Seriously. Yum. I bought a bag of grapes recently (green, seedless) and tossed them in the freezer. Now anytime we need a snack, there they are! I think I read about them in Jenny McCarthy's book Belly Laughs, which by the way is not a very good book. Too much jumpity-jump-jump for me. I'd prefer a story of a women's pregnancy to go from conception to birth, but hers didn't.

Hell froze over

Bush was inaugurated today. On the news they compared him to Kennedy and discussed the Bush "dynasty". Wow! I think I am going to go and throw up now. All we can do is count down the time until he cannot be our president anymore. Can you believe Bushes have been in the presidency for most of the last two decades? At least the wives are relatively harmless. Here comes January 2009!!

How much is that doggie in the dyke?

My brother took his dog for a walk today along the Sussequehanna River in Lock Haven. She's a relatively large breed, and she'd been cooped up in the small apartment he moved into last week. He decided to let her off the leash and she proceeded to run down to the river's edge. There she ran out onto the thin ice of the river. It immediately broke from her weight and she plunged into the icy water. Instictively he jumped in after her since she was swimming away from shore. He kept calling to her, but she was in shock from the water. He finally got her out of the river and headed home as quickly as possible only to realize that his keys were now missing in the bottom of the river. Hahaahahahahaahahaha!!!

Brother and dog are fine. He called his girlfriend who called JEEP with the VIN# to replace the key. His landlord gave him a new apartment key, too. Both brother and the dog are on the way to Pittsburgh for the weekend now.

I'll tell you. This only happens to people like him. Haahaahahaha.

Class yuck

So classes begin again today. I thought I went to class on Thursday, but my friend emailed me to show up tonight. I rechecked the schedule and it's tonight. I do not know when it changed or how I scheduled it incorrectly, but here we go. Gilmore Girls is on Tuesdays, but I care less about that than others. And we have a DVR. Woohoo. Forty minutes until I go to class. How fun.

The Mountain Cancelled

One of the coolest shows on the WB has been cancelled! Of course no one told us it was gone. We watched the last episode on January 2, 2005 at my parent's house. It was very good and continued to surprise me week after week. Shelley and Sam needed to be together in the end. I also wanted to know what would happen to Hudson, and then there's his brother who ran off when he began having sex with his fiancee. Then nothing. Nada. Almost as bad as Marissa's sister on the O.C. disappearing. Of course, it's sometimes cool to have siblings appear, like Dawn on Buffy and all, but this sure damn sucks.

I am going to check out Point Pleasant Wednesday. At least Fox is figuring something out.

Office

I want to set up some things in my office. I'd like to set up a Dazzle, DVD-R DL, Scanner (& maybe someday a label printer). I'd like to do it in a way where I could walk in and jack right in to any of them and use them immediately. I realize there's no real reason to tell you any of this, but I am.

Reflex (see left column) is coming along. I enjoy it. I am also working on redoing one of my websites. I am not completely happy with it, but it's simpler than the old one. My cousin doesn't like it, and he had some good ideas of how to make it better.

Went to brunch today, then the mall, then lunch, then home, then bowling, then to dinner. The friggin' Pad Thai at this one place was awesome! You wanna see some good Pad Thai, check out the archives. There's this place we ate with J&L in Squirrel Hill a while back and I took a picture that's stored in my archives.

Surfing the net reminded me of Frick Park where I've not been since high school. I went on Earth Day with some friends and my brother one year. It was muddy and rainy. I enjoyed the day and the food. A few years before that I was sick and out of school. It was May Day, and we picked up my grandmother and went to a May Day celebration at one of the city parks. Did I also mention it's her birthday? I love the rain, sleeping in the rain, listening to it. That day it rained and I remember. We had some damn mushroom sandwiches and also some good strawberries there.

Tsunami - Receding waters, Kalutara Beach, Sri Lanka

Tsunami - Receding waters, Kalutara Beach, Sri Lanka

So this is a wild set of 40 before & after pictures from the Tsunami.

Ben Roethlisberger donated his $18,000.00 payment for tonight's playoff game to the Tsunami relief fund. Good deal.

This could only happen in Pennsylvania

So I will preface this post by saying that the below is an email from my cousin. She went to a wedding today near New Castle, PA. It was just too "different" too pass up.

Now tell me somewhere else in the country this occurs...This was actually a pretty fancy wedding... 8 bridesmaids.. 2 flower girls.. all that stuff.. haltered/backless black dresses with sequence...trumpets aria.. all that stuff...
reception for 500 people in a banquet hall in Boardman....
and 31 Amish in attendance... yes as in Amish Dutch... blue dresses/ bonnets... beards...
now here's the part that is sort of weird... my Father knew ALL of them... and here's even weirder.. I knew about half..
and there were also the announcements every 10 or so minutes of the score of the game by the DJ...
we listened to the overtime on the radio on the way home!!! way to go STEELERS

Holy Crap

WOW! That was one of the most tense games I have ever seen. We won! Go Stillers! Of course Ben needs to think about what happened and make sure it doesn't next week. Crap. I do not want to see him against Manning or Brady at all, ever. We will get one of them next week. And my dad#2 think it's our time. We shall see. Go Ben! Damn.

...And the Horse They Road In On

Damn damn damn. Come on, Ben! Why why did you let him intercept it. No time. No time. Waaah.

Steelers

This is scaring me. Can they win it all? One for the thumb? The Jets are killing them, and what's Ben doing? Scary ... 10 minutes left.

Raging Red

I was at allconsuming.net and decided to see who they recommend to link here. I found Raging Red there. I thought it was a reference to a cinnamon schnappes on which I was ripped years ago in Florida, but it's some red headed woman. So here you go. Congrats on making it here.

Welcome to the City of Corry, PA! NOT!

Never visit this city!

Do I sound bitter? Most of me still is most of the time. I wasted two years of my life with a woman from there. This is a small poe-dunk town in Northern Central Pennsylvania. I have been there twice. The first time I went with the girl, who I continue to call Pyscho-hose Beast, even to this day. The second time was with my father, hunting.

So the girl is really messed up. Her father-in-law thought I was gay because I didn't play football, and her mother had a very whiney voice. Her father hated me and her step mom didn't care. Her little brother probably got screwed up from her. And her other brother was a jerk.

Corry, PA is a small town where there are probably no more than a few thousand people. Everyone knows each other and most are related. The girl worked at the local grocery store for years. She dated the football player and lived a sheltered life. She had never seen a Star Wars or Superman movie. Her mother loved Mariah Carey, and she thought State College, PA was a huge city! The girl was a cheerleader and continued to act like it.

She was schizophrenic, and I spent nights awake running around the town looking for her after she would run out in the rain and snow.

She finally dumped me for the man she said she was not dating. She was always afraid of getting pregnant out of wedlock and moving to Pittsburgh--a city she hated. Then this guy got her pregnant and guess where they moved? Ha. She was married in a white wedding dress with a large pregnant belly, and her mother bought her furniture for her new home in Carnegie, PA for a wedding present.

The girl spent all this money and time getting a good degree at Penn State, but what does she do now? She stays at home and watches her kids.

I've talked to her twice this millennium. They were cordial. I am glad that is long over. I have always wanted to marry my highschool sweetheart, and I believe I did. I married the woman who saw me in high school and knew she would marry. I married the woman who helped save me from the girl one weekend. Thank, God.

Movies

Sometimes it's fun to watch the stupid movies. We're watching Chasing Liberty now. I cannot believe that Mandy Moore is on this and I can stand watching her, but then I watch something like Saved!, which I loved and she's horrible. (Like Iago and all, you know.)

Want to go the Love Parade? D went, and here it is on the movie. Oh now, now she knows the love of her life is an FBI agent! Can you say First Daughter?

So watch Saved! It's my second favorite movie of the year behind Garden State. Today I met a blog that didn't like Garden State, and I think you can find her under Moot Point on my blog roll.

I also added a Reading List. I want it to have multiple books, but I don't know how to set it for that. Who knows. Right now it's only showing the one I am reading.

I think I like Science Fiction, but not the crazy stuff where people have names like Zitgar and Rewezug. I am more interested in escapism literature and where people have powers not their own. For example, in Jump the protagonist is a teleporter. It has it's ups and downs. Haha.

Andrew Wyeth

I mentioned him before and will again. I heart him. Totally. Not him though. He's old now. And needs my eyebrow clippers. Did I mention I met his grand daughter, Victoria Wyeth? Actually, I don't think I met her, but I watched her talk. Amazing. Did you know after his father died he began to put less people, trees, and buildings in his paintings? Did you know he secretly painted a woman he knew for years without telling anyone? If I painted a naked lady everyday, perhaps my wife would not be happy either. Of course he accomplished an entire body of work while doing it.

So I am writing more now. Looks like the funk soul brother is dancing again. Looks like friends are friends and people are people, so why should it be... lalala sorry. Maybe I will see D or A this weekend.

I found a picture of Victoria somewhere while looking for Wyeth online. Did she go to Bates? I think so. Perhaps I will post her picture sometime.

Do you think I look like Johnny Depp? Well, we do have the same initial.

I know what you did last summer

I am walking around in this movie. I keep watching behind me, and thinking someone will jump out and call me on some imaginary secret. Why? It's scary, and nothing changes.

What is Julian reading?

I am reading a ton of things!

Strange than Fiction by Chuck Palahniuk (http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/)
Eleanor Rigby by Douglas Coupland (<-- Personal website!)
    Cat's Pajama's by James Morrow
Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs
That new Dave Sedaris book with the naked Barbie Doll crotch (Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim)
Nero 6 edited by Wallace Wang
Making a Movie with Windows XP edited by Jan Ozer

I just finished Biz Stone's Who Let the Blog Out? It was a good read that I would recommend. Moreover, I would recommend his blog to you as well.

I am also getting into Dave Eggers again, although I know he's so two years ago.

Check out Kottke's Sedaris Eggers Smackdown for some fun!

Splenda & Equal

Went to Starbuck's tonight to edit a friend's comps and dissertation for her. She and I are close and I enjoy her friendship. She needed my help, and I sat there for two hours with her. My mother in law made me half decaf half caffeinated coffee when I visited her last week. I enjoyed it. It gave me some ooomph without making me sick. I had some tonight, and it was so good.

Moreover, I like Splenda. I thought it would suck, like Equal but it was delicious and not sugar! It coated my coffee very well and there wasn't that sugary bottom to it. It was a balanced sweetness that made for a wonderful scrumptuous drink.

Baby hearts

Tonight there was a HUGE bulge sticking out from the side of my wife's stomach. Turned out my daughter got her head lodge in there somewhere. I came over and put my hand over her. Her heart beat loudly against my hand causing my fingers to move. Then I put my face on my wife's stomach and I could hear and feel the baby's heart beat. I am very exciting.

We finally found a stroller and car seat we like. Babies R Us rocks my world. More on that later.

Adobe Carpet Cleaning - 602-266-6955

Do not use Adobe Carpet Cleaning - 602-266-6955 - 8532 N 7 St PHOENIX, AZ 85020-3109 !

I have used Adobe Carpet Cleaning in 2004 and my wife and I were horrified by their service and professionalism. We asked for carpets to be cleaned in three rooms and wanted no other service. The two employees who came out were Eastern European and did not speak English very well. They continued to bully me into purchasing other services. Some of which I reluctantly did. They then did not do the extra work. In my living room they did not move any furniture to clean the carpets around it. They just went around everything.

Then I paid them before realizing it. I called later and they said they would send the men back out but I had my in-laws flying in and did not want those two men back in my house. I asked for a partial refund of what they did not do, but the woman at the company did not return my calls. I called a few times a day for two days before I finally got the bosses cell phone number. I called him and he agreed to a partial refund, but when he charged my account he added a zero so it was almost a thousand dollars he charged me! We then asked for them to fix it, and they said it would be a few days. This was going to put my account into the negative. After threatening them with fraud and lawsuits they fixed it immediately, even though they initially said it would take days.

Do not use them. Then they called back six months later wanting to come back out!

Fox Searchlight Pictures : Garden State

Fox Searchlight Pictures : Garden State

I have decided that to make my blog more useful to people I should review things I like, hate, and have no feeling about whatsoever. So I will begin today, right now, here, with
Garden State. I saw this movie in the theatres a few months ago and thought nothing has been better this year. I held this movie in my realm of best movies I've seen with American Beauty. The beauty of Zach Braff's creation brought tears to the eyes of several friends who saw this movie about the same time I did. I loved the dialogue and acting. Natalie Portman is continuously amazing me moving from a little girl in The Apprentice to sublime Queen Amidala to the wonderfully complex love interest to Braff to the seductress in Closer, which I recently saw as well.

My only problem with Garden State is that it didn't come out on DVD until December 28th. I bet you could've sold more copies, Zach, if you could've convinced Fox Search Lights to release it just a few days earlier. I'm sure they had a good reason, I suppose. Now I need to go buy it myself, and you're probably asking, "Julian, you idiot. It's January 8th and you don't own it yet?" Well, I am going tomorrow. Trust me.

Lastly, I'd like to be as talented at Web Design as the webmaster for the Garden State website. I absolutely adore that design.

Cheers.

Brother

I sat in my parent's house this morning and watched my brother leave for college once again. He's gone away to St Mary's College in South Bend, Indiana and then off to Duquesne University a year after that. Now it's a few years later and he's leaving for Lock Haven University. He went through a few majors now, and it's finally time he buckles down and graduates. Maybe he will.

His girlfriend goes to Mansfield University near LHU and this should help him stay on track. Moreover, his dog will go with him. It will be good to get her out from under my mother's feet.

So he rented a Penske Truck and filled it with all of his belongings today and left. Sunday he will take the dog and drive his Jeep up there. He is taking his iguana today, and three friends are going with him to help him move.

Bend it like Beckham, little Amanda Beard!

We sit here on the couch and my wife has her shirt pulled above her belly, and I am watching my daughter kick the heck out of my wife's stomach. Maybe I have a little swimmer or footballer in there somewhere. Won't that be swell? ... Or perhaps we'll call her Picabo. I know Grandpap would love that.

baby shower

Yesterday was D's suprise baby shower in Pittsburgh for the siblings and grandparents. (There'll be a friend one in the spring). We had her going so much! She never knew it was coming. There were 11 women there in her parent's basement, and I thought her father and I would go to the bar to watch the Steelers, but he wanted to hit golf balls since it was so damn warm outside. So we headed to Practice Tee, and I was nervous since I never hit a ball anywhere near him. Surprisingly, I did pretty well. Some of my shots were even better than his! Then I bought him a pack of Wilson Steeler logo balls for his cabinet we bought him last year.

Found out Coupland's new book Eleanor Rigby is out now in a B&N near me! Woohoo. On Coupland's site there's a title for a tenth book due out in Decemeber called jPod! Damn, I am rocking on now. Pahalniuk's new book Stranger than Fiction is out now in a bookstore near me. I will purchase it next week.

Happy Oh-Five

The first in a long line of New Year's Eves that did not suck. We spent it with the inlaws and their best friends. Played Catchphrase and Texas Hold 'Em. Woohoo. We played games until 11:45. My mom-in-law gave me a pot to bang, and that was rad. We drank too much of the red wine and I made my famous cheese fondue. I had a cool talk with dad-in-law until after 1:30am then crashed until noon. D's mom played with our digital camera a ton, and I think that would be good for her since she can take as many crappy pictures as she wants and not pay for any of them. And dad-in-law is obsessed with the heroine/villianesses in James Bond, so maybe a dvd box set next year? Perhaps. Ok billtime. bye.
